Environmental Justice and Health Equity

Environmental harm disproportionately affects low-income and BIPOC communities. At Community Action NOW!, we fight for environmental health, clean energy access, and safe housing through community-led action in both the U.S. Virgin Islands and Georgia.

Our Environmental Justice Initiatives:

🌞 Share the Sun: Solar Affordability Program
Helping families cut energy costs and transition to clean solar energy—over 175 homes served and growing.

💧 Savan Cistern Repair Program
Restoring damaged water systems for low-income seniors and veterans in St. Thomas. Includes leak repairs, filtration, water testing, and resident education.

🧪 Post-Biolab Environmental Health Project
In response to the 2024 Biolab chemical fire in Rockdale County, we’re working with Morehouse School of Medicine to assess and address long-term health impacts.

📊 Advocacy, Research & Policy Change
Training residents to lead environmental research, hold polluters accountable, and drive equitable policy reform through lived experience and data.

175 UNDERSERVED FAMILIES NOW HAVE access to solar energy

SHARE THE SUN SOLAR PROGRAM

The Share the Sun program provides reduced-cost portable solar generators to low-income families in St. Thomas and St. John, helping them maintain power during outages and disasters.

Administered by Community Action NOW and Rotary East ECO, with support from several local organizations, the program has already benefited over 175 families since 2022. In addition to the reduced-cost option, a retail sales program allows others to purchase the generators, with proceeds reinvested to expand the program's reach and help more families access solar energy. This program will resume in spring of 2025, pending funding availability.  Check back soon for updates!
