The fight for voting rights in America has never been simple—nor equal. From literacy tests and poll taxes to voter suppression laws and district gerrymandering, the path to the ballot box has long been obstructed, especially for Black, Indigenous, immigrant, and low-income communities.
In the U.S. Territories—including the U.S. Virgin Islands—residents face additional barriers. Though they are American citizens, they cannot vote for president and have limited representation in Congress. These ongoing inequities are not just policy oversights—they are reminders of why civic education, advocacy, and participation matter more than ever.
Civic Roots is where our commitment to nonpartisan voter engagement meets the lived experience of those historically silenced. Through grassroots outreach, community education, and policy leadership, Community Action NOW! is restoring power where it belongs: in the hands of the people.
Voting is more than a right—it’s a tool for change. It shapes school boards, housing policies, healthcare access, and disaster response. When we understand how systems work, we can shape them to work for us.
That’s why CAN leads initiatives like:
A dynamic, hands-on training program that prepares community members to lead with vision. Participants learn policy advocacy, organizing strategies, and how to engage public systems for lasting impact.
Our year-round, issue-focused advocacy effort that trains residents to speak truth to power—from local hearings to federal comment periods. We connect real stories to real policy shifts.
Below you’ll find tools to register to vote, check your status, learn about upcoming elections, and get involved in civic life—whether you live in Georgia or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
