Share the Sun, a solar affordability program, is now accepting applications from low-income families on St. Thomas and St. John.
Share the Sun is a reduced-cost portable solar generator program. This program is being administered through Community Action NOW and Rotary East ECO with the support of Community Foundation of the VI, Virgin Islands Conservation Society and Island Green Living. Solar generators are a great option for families to keep the lights on during power outages and natural disasters, charge medical devices, cell phones, and some appliances. The solar generators offer built-in 1800w pure sine wave inverter and a 60Ah lead acid battery, three 110v AC outlets, a DC outlet & USB port on the front of the unit. The unit also has a separate 100-watt solar panel on wheels to charge the battery.
In 2022, more than 55 families on the island of St. Thomas participated in this program. We are excited to launch Phase 2 for income-eligible families on St. Thomas and now St. John. Share the Sun also offers a retail sales option for families who do not qualify for our reduced-cost program. . Families can purchase the devices at full cost, directly supporting the Share the SUN's reduced-cost program. Devices sold at full cost help to grow our reduced cost program and is reinvested in the Share the Sun program, helping more families to gain access to solar. See below for device specs and retail sales.
